First Time Reseller Experience
Week One of Organizing My Closet:
Reselling My Clothes
I finally took out the big tub of clothes that lived in my closet, which I labeled as clothes I would, one day, like to resell. I always dreaded the process of reselling clothes because it seemed like getting rid of them would be too tedious. Despite prolonging the process of reselling my put-up pieces, I took the initiative last week to resell my clothes on the Depop app. I have been familiar with Depop for years now but never fully took the time to explore the app. Comparing Depop to Poshmark, I believe I would have a greater chance at reselling my items seamlessly and faster on Depop. As Depop tailors to a younger crowd. Also, I noticed in the past that Poshmark has a lot of spam accounts that will only follow and like your listing rather than buy it. Another driving factor for utilizing Depop is that I spoke to one of my coworkers, who said she has seen the success of selling over 400 items on Depop. She explained that the primary strategy for selling more items is posting something every day, which will not be a problem for me with all my buckets of clothes. Also, I like how Depop will have the shipping prices covered; you only have to ship it out in a bag or box you prefer.
THE CARE I PUT INTO MY LISTING PROCESS
Since many of the clothes I am listing are no longer my size, I am using a half-body mannequin to give some users a visual of what these items look like on a body—for shirts.
Taking clear photos using my digital camera.
Using the PhotoRoom app to clear out the original background and replace the background with different ranges of aesthetically pleasing backgrounds.
Measuring the inseams of the pants and putting the measurements in my listing description.
Outcome
After a week of consistently posting three items per day on Depop, I am disappointed that I have not sold anything yet. Not only am I disappointed with the lack of sales traction, but now my room is cluttered from the big bin of clothes of inventory I have to sell just sitting in the middle of the room. ( I refuse to put it back into my closet because I am trying to get it gone and cleared out. ASAP!) Although I had no luck selling any items, I will not give up trying to resell my items.
Failing FOrward
If all fails, I may take these clothes to a Plato's closet store or donate them. Moreover, I will be patient with the process because I ultimately love the idea that I am contributing to sustainability. I want to continue reselling unique pieces I have as a hobby and use the money gained to pour back into building a new wardrobe. Not to mention, Depop has some unique finds, so from a user standpoint, I may utilize the app periodically to buy some one-of-a-kind pieces.
