Podcast Recommendations

Podcasts to add to your list

I've been into podcasts for five years now! It all started as a way to make the workday fly by, but now I've got a great selection that keeps me entertained all day long. Whether at home, in the car, walking my dog, or cooking, you can bet I've got a podcast playing. I turn to my curated podcasts when ready to learn or crave an insightful conversation. I have some great recommendations if you're into entertaining and insightful discussions!

Small Doses

Since I first listened to Small Doses with Amanda Seales, I've been captivated by her unique, quirky personality and sharp critical thinking skills. Her discussions about her experiences as an empath resonated with me as I navigated my journey as an empath in a world where it's not always easy to relate to others. I appreciate how Amanda can hold engaging conversations on her own, covering a wide range of topics effectively, even though talking about specific issues often requires multiple perspectives.

My favorite part of Amanda Seales' podcast was when she featured educators discussing various aspects of education, including the benefits of higher education and the challenges posed by state-specific curricula. This series profoundly impacted my life, especially when I was at a crossroads in my career after being laid off. It inspired me to pursue a master's degree in creative writing. Overall, I admire Amanda Seales for her authenticity, open-mindedness in tackling thought-provoking topics, and willingness to engage with challenging ideas both with her guests and within herself.

Therapy for black Girls

In 2022, I stumbled upon Dr. Joy Harden Bradford's Therapy For Black Girls podcast, and I'm pleased I did. I found it on the podcast app and learned she is a clinical psychologist in Atlanta, GA. In the first few episodes, I listened to featured guests discussing navigating through productivity cycles and a guest's experience within the fashion industry, mental health topics, cults, etc. I was interested in these topics and admired Dr. Joy's listening skills and her giving her guests the spotlight to share their expertise. I appreciate her ability to let her guests fully express their thoughts without constantly redirecting the conversation to her experiences. Her listening skills are something to emulate in my own life. I enjoy the thought-provoking discussions with Dr. Joy and her guests and the spotlight she gives her younger staff to share their experiences and expertise from a collegiate perspective. I also like the lighter topics, such as her discussions about television shows and music. Overall, Dr. Joy has a refreshing range of content that I enjoy.

Jerry Flowers podcast

Jerry Flowers is a pastor located in Houston, Texas. He holds in-person church services, live streams them, and makes his services available on podcast platforms. I discovered Pastor Flowers when I was undergoing a spiritual awakening after graduating college and lost my best friend. I appreciate Pastor Flowers' straightforward approach as he teaches directly from the Bible and is unafraid to deliver a message guided by sound doctrine rather than being concerned about how people will react. His ministry has transformed my understanding of God and helped me develop a personal and obedient relationship with Him. While I usually watch his streams on YouTube, I also listen to his podcasts when I prefer just listening.

I discovered "The Everyday Style Icon Podcast" with Tiffany Howard on TikTok, where she promoted her podcast. I was interested because I love everything about style and was eager to hear someone discuss it in depth. As I am currently improving my style and working in a field where I'm learning style tips and helping others with their looks, this podcast would be right up my alley. The podcast episodes are short and to the point, which I appreciate. I admire Tiffany's perspective on personal style and have been incorporating some of her viewpoints into my own style redevelopment. One thing I appreciate about her podcast is that she doesn't come across as condescending or arrogant in her approach to style, which is refreshing. One of her takes that stuck with me is that elevated or polished style isn't one-size-fits-all. It varies from person to person, and if we approach polished looks narrowly, we risk conforming to a style that doesn't truly reflect who we are and what makes us comfortable.

Reckless Discussions

I really enjoyed watching "Reckless Discussions" on YouTube. This podcast featured Jess Hilarious, Rome (the father of her child), family, and friends: London and Prince. I discovered this podcast through Jess Hilarious’ Instagram. They are all from Baltimore, and I loved their accents. I was drawn to the podcast because it showcased the beautiful bond they all shared, and I appreciated their different viewpoints on various topics, whether serious or lighthearted. They were a funny group, and I especially enjoyed getting to know Prince. The way he approached topics showed he was a deep thinker, which reminded me of a friend who passed away. I miss this podcast and hope it will return to YouTube soon with more episodes. Their outfits were great, and their mutual respect for each other was incredible.
